Join me, Shannon Noble from Rare Wine Dinners, for a night of Vintage Wines, Fusion Japanese food and Live Jazz in the 1912 Basement Dining Bar. This year marks 5 years since our first dinner so we are celebrating this milestone with a number of events this year including this, our first Wine, Food and Music fusion event. This dinner will take us on a journey through 44 years of European and Australian wine making.
From Champagne in France to 2 distinct Riesling Appellations in Germany over to Margaret River for Australia’s benchmark premium Chardonnay, across to Burgundy in France, then over to Piedmont in Italy, moving to Rioja in Spain, down to South Australia and finally we land back in Germany where we started. We will taste 2 great German Riesling from 1992 followed by one of Western Australia’s greatest white wines from 2000. Then we land in one of the most celebrated wine regions in all the world, Burgundy, for a superb 1976. Our oldest wine this night will be a Nebbiolo Barolo Riserva from 1970, then a Rioja Tempranillo from the excellent vintage of 1978, before tasting a superbly cellared 1994 Premium Australian Shiraz, then we pull the cork on the 1998 Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Finally we will finish with a rare Huxelrebe from arguably the German vintage of the 20th century, 1971.
The first 2 German Riesling are excellent examples of the first 2 Pradikat levels Kabinett and Spatlese. These wines will build in sweetness, complexity and power balanced by that wonderful acidity that keeps them clean and precise. Then a superb premium Australian Chardonnay from Leeuwin Estate. The red wine highlight of the night could be any one of the wonderful wines on offer, from 1976 Burgundy to the 1970 Barolo or 1994 Wynns Shiraz. Which red wine will be your favorite?
With all these wonderful wines 1912 Dining Bar have promised to deliver a matched 8 course menu showcasing the highlights of their Japanese fusion menu along with some very special dishes created just for us on this occasion. Keeping you entertained will be a live Jazz band, ensuring not only an education in vintage wine and fine food but a fun night of Rhythm and song.
