This dinner will take us on a journey through some of the biggest labels and vintages in European fine wine. Do not miss this opportunity to taste the 1948 Chateau Petrus, surely the highlight in this dinner for any lovers of the finest right bank Bordeaux. Perhaps the very finest and rarest Burgundy is more to your taste? then dont miss the rare 1966 Domaine Marey-Monge and 1959 Domaine Grivelet Vosne Romanee. This is a dinner any aficionado of the very finest vintage wine should not miss.
The evening will start with an excellent 1988 vintage Champagne from the house of Gosset and their Celebris. Then we move to a pair of white wines from Burgundy with a Joseph Drouhin Meursault from 1979 and a 1988 Paul Bouchard Corton Charlamagne Grand Cru. Next stop is Germany for a vintage of the century, 1971 Brogsitter Brauneberg Juffer Auslese served beside no other than a 1982 Joh Jos Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Gold Kapsel Riesling. These 2 wines will certainly make you sit up and take notice of just how superb German Riesling can be.
Leaving the white wines behind we shift our focus to Burgundy with a 1959 Domaine Grivelet Vosne Romanee and an extremely rare 1966 Domaine Marey-Monge (DRC/Leroy) Romanee St Vivant Grand Cru. It does not get better than this for the very best Red Burgundy for vintage 1966. This wine alone should have you booking your ticket now!
Next we will head to Italy for 2 vintages of Borgogno Barolo, 1964 & 1969, these wines should need no introduction as they have legendary status in the history of the very finest Italian Barolo. Borgogno’s ability to age for decades and their consistent house style will leave you with the true tar and roses experience. Following this is 2 very good examples of well aged premium Rioja from Spain, 1962 Yago Condal Reserva Especial and 1966 Bodegas Bilbainas Vina Pomal Reserva Especial, trust Rare Wine Dinners for choosing these wines and enjoy the experience as they are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
How often do you have the opportunity to share in the opening and tasting of a 1948 Chateau Petrus, one of the very finest right bank Bordeaux wines. Robert Parker Jr recommends seeking out this wine for its greatness sits in the shadow of the wonderful vintages of 47 and 49 but this wine shines in its own right. 1948 Chateau Petrus is no slouch, it is a super example of this vintage and of the house style that has given rise to Petrus as one of the most sought after wines on the planet.
What better way to end such a wonderful line up of wines than on a 1949 Beerenauslese Riesling from Adam Albert. 1949 is one of the finest vintages of the 20th century for sweet Riesling in Germany. A very fitting finale to yet another night of incredible wine rarity and experience to which words alone cannot do justice!
