Join us for a very special look at some rare vintage German Riesling and Rioja from Spain. This dinner will take us on a journey through some fantastic examples of current and mature Riesling and Rioja from some of the greatest producers in the world today. We offer a unique opportunity for there is nowhere in the world you can sit down to a 6 course meal and try these vintage wines side by side.
We start our journey with two great wines including a Gold Kapsel Qba from Staatsweinguter Kloster Eberbach and their expression of the Steinberg vineyard in the Rheingau for the 1998 vintage. Wines that are bottled with the Gold Kapsel are the very best examples of Riesling a vineyard can produce. Along side this is a Kabinett Riesling from the 2011 vintage with an incredible 100 Oechsle, this level of Oechsle is usually found in an Auslese wine not a Kabinett hence this is an astonishing and unique wine. The second flight of wines will take us up one level on the German wine scale to the Spatlese with a current and well aged example of the Langwerth Von Simmern, Rauenthaler Rothenberg vineyard. You will taste the current 2011 as well as the excellent 1976 vintage from Langwerth Von Simmern in the Rheingau, one of the oldest wine estates in Germany dating back 600 years.
RIght about here we take a detour to Spain for one of the greatest vintages ever for Blanco Rioja, 1981 from legendary producer Lopez de Heredia and their Vina Tondonia Blanco Reserva. It just does not get better than this for white Rioja. We then head north again and move up the German wine scale to the Auslese, this time we have a superb wine from the 1976 vintage and producer George Muller. If you are reading this but still unsure about booking your ticket then this next wine should confirm your decision to attend, 1964 Joh Jos Prum Wehlener Zeltinger Sonnhur Auslese from the MSR, a superb vintage, one of the very best producers and extremely rare; this alone should be confirmation to book your seat. These wines will be dense, powerful and quite possibly a life changing wine experience for anyone who has not experienced such wines before.
Taking a break from the Riesling we head back to Rioja in Spain with our first two wines the 1994 Garnacha Reserva and 1995 Valpiedra Reserva from Bujanda Martinez one of the greatest producers of Rioja in Spain today. These two wines are the modern expression of Rioja, perfectly aged and ready to impress. From here we step up again to Bujanda Martinez and sample the 1975 Conde de Valdemar Gran Reserva and the 1983 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 these two wines are excellent examples of the powerful and classic Rioja style.
Finishing the night in style we head back to Germany and Riesling territory for a show stopping Beerenauslese from Pfalz and the great vintage of 1976, one of the greatest vintages for Riesling in the 20th century. This wine is guaranteed to leave you wishing you had a second glass. The perfect end to an amazing display of vinous geniuis from two of Europes most exciting wine regions today.
